More than 2022 beyond: Heidels secret extension in Mainz

What the Thursday issue reported in his Thursday issue has confirmed the club in the morning: Mainz 05 and Christian Heidel also work together in the coming years. The working paper of the sports board would originally expired in the summer of 2022.

Heidel himself had existed at his return in December 2020 for only one and a half years of runtime, although the former Supervisory Board Detlev Höhne had wanted to bind the 58-year-old longer. Heidel wanted to wait, whether all the club acting in the destroyed club on a strand, especially with regard to the newly elected control panel.

After the league, everything was only formality

With the sensationally decreased class content in the back were the talks that had already started in the summer break, apparently only formality. In any case, the parties to Thursday issue information should have agreed not only beyond an extension beyond 2022, but also to the most simple parameters as possible in the event of termination of cooperation, which is intended to do it other than industry without a defined duration.

Together with Martin Schmidt and Bo Svensson, in the past season, we have freed from an almost alertless sporty situation and thus fulfills the first part of our mission, explains Heidel in the club message. I want to continue this way and continue to stabilize the club and develop. We are not ready yet with our project. I m doing not to keep it loose now to continue the positive development.

What Heidels extension for Schmidt means

Some says that Heidel, who had returned to Schalke last year after three years, finally ceases when he sees Mainz 05 well positioned in the long term. Martin Schmidt comes into play. The Treaty of Sports Director, who wondered with Heidel and coach Svensson, wake up the draining club, ends 2022. Responsible for its extension is the sports board. He is likely to lead conversations with the Swiss in Bälde, now because his own future was fixed.

Mainz 05 always remains a matter of the heart for me, says Heidel. There is no normal employment relationship between the association and me after these many years. The basis of my activity is that we agree on the committees about the common direction of our work and the future of Mainz 05. This common understanding of a trusting cooperation I feel.
